The Royal Army Service Cor (RASC) merged with
transportation and movement control service of the Royal Engineers
which was responsible for the railway, inland water transport port
operations and movements, delivery of petrol, food and ammunition to
the front line. |

Hiroshima after the atomic bomb 'Little Boy'
was dropped on the city 6th August 1945 |

CSM. WJ Hutton (Billy) was
serving in Japan when the atomic bomb 'Little Boy' was dropped on the city
of Hiroshima near the end of WW11 against the Empire of Japan by the
United States at the executive order of the U.S. President Harry S.
Truman. A second atomic bomb 'Fat Man' was dropped on the 9th August over
Nagasaki. On the 15th August Japan surrendered and WW11 was over, (Victory
over Japan Day. V-J Day) the formal surrender ceremony was performed in
Tokyo on 2nd September 1945.
By the end of 1945 the
bomb dropped on Hiroshima killed as many as 140,000 people and 80,000 in
Nagasaki, roughly half on the days of the bombing, since then thousands
more have died from injuries or illness related to radiation exposure released
by the bombs. |
