Marriott's is the former railway line
which is a 21 mile route path for walkers, Cyclists and Horseriders from
Norwich linking with Whitwell, Themelthorpe, Reepham, Cawston and to Aylsham which then continues
for 9 miles as the Bure
Valley Railway and Walkers Path to Wroxham. The route also links with the
Bittern line, Norwich to Cromer and Sheringham.
At Hellesdon, Marriott's Way joins the Norwich
Riverside Walk, which runs for 5 miles through the heart of the City to
the Boom towers near Carrow Bridge.
There are two entry/exit points to Marriott's Way in Cawston, one by the
railway bridge on the Reepham Road and the other by the old station yard
at Chapel Street, see Cawston Guide Map. The photos below are of the
entry/exit points with illustrations of services in the village and mile markers from Norwich to Aylsham
which were
erected in 2009, the photos are in order on the Cawston part of the path
leading from Reepham to Aylsham.
Marriott's Way is named after William
Marriott the chief engineer & manager of the Midland & Greet Northern
railway system for 41 years. |
